Doris Elizabeth (Johnston) Keast
September 12, 1920 ~ March 2, 2014 (age 93) 93 Years Old
In Loving Memory of
Doris E. Keast
1920 – 2014
The family of Doris Keast is saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, March 2, 2014 in Roblin, Manitoba.
Doris was born on September 12, 1920 in Roblin, the middle child of D’Arcy and Ruby Johnston. Doris was raised in the Cromarty area where her Mom and Dad farmed and raised their family. Doris loved the horses and rode daily throughout the area. She especially loved the Boggy, where her Grandfather Boggy Johnston had a stopping house.
Doris took her schooling in Roblin. After graduating, she went to work at the telephone office. Doris married Gordon Keast in June 1948 and moved to Port Arthur/Fort William where Gordon was employed with Goodyear. They transferred to Winnipeg for two years, eventually returning to Roblin where Gordon went in to the garage business known as Keast Bros. Doris went to work for the Kozmeniuk‘s in the hardware business. After a long career with the Kozmeniuk’s, Mom moved on down the street to help our Dad at the Tire Shop. She loved the people, enjoying visits with old friends, and making new acquaintances with the young folks. She loved the Tire Shop and enjoyed her work till the age of 88.
One of Mother’s greatest loves was the outdoors. She loved to ride her horse and skidoo. Mom and Dad spent countless hours with “the Jet Set” touring the countryside. She enjoyed curling and loved to garden. Mom loved her home. The family fondly remembers many get togethers largely centered around Mom’s kitchen. They were very special times shared with family and friends. Mom and Dad enjoyed many common interests throughout their 55 years of marriage. Their unconditional love and devotion made for a solid foundation of family values.
Left to cherish her memory are: her sons, D’Arcy (Eileen), Gordie (Robbie), and her daughter Kathy (Barry). Doris is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Betty Keast, Connie Keast, and Thelma Riach (Clarence); her brother-in-law Bill Keast (Sadie); and many treasured nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Gordon; sister Irene Sullivan and husband Ralph; her brothers-in-law, Bob and wife Doreen, Harold and Calvin Keast; her sister- in-law Marjorie Sharpen and her nephew Patrick Keast.
A service to Mark the Death and Celebrate the Life of Doris Keast was held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Roblin Knox United Church with Reverend Mark Hammond officiating. Mrs. Allison Shearer-Craig led the congregation and Knox United Church Choir in singing the hymns “Morning Has Broken”, “Precious Lord Take my Hand”, “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” and “In The Quiet Curve of Evening”.
