Donna Jean Glennie
September 14, 1936 ~ November 22, 2015 (age 79) 79 Years Old
In Loving Memory of
Donna Jean Glennie
1936 – 2015
Donna Jean Glennie passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 79 years young in the Grandview Personal Care Home.
She was born Donna Jean Winfield on September 14, 1936, in Grandview, Manitoba to Allan and Jennie Winfield. Donna Jean was the baby of the family growing up on the farm south of town with her siblings Bud, Ruth and Merle.
Donna Jean married James Harvey Glennie on April 14, 1955 in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. They moved to Grandview in 1965 and settled the family into their lifetime home of 105 Railway North in 1968. They celebrated 55 years of married life together.
Donna Jean approached life with a ferocious curiosity, a “sharp as a tack” mind, a fun-loving spirit and a persistent love for her family and her friends. While she fulfilled so many roles – daughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, and grandmother – she approached each of those roles as generous, fun loving and filled with laughter.
Her hobbies were bingo, bowling, puzzle books, knitting, games, puzzles, and cards. She enjoyed driving in the country, going fishing and camping. Her life was full of trips and get-togethers with family and friends and she loved having things to look forward to.
Donna Jean cared about her community and gave her time to different causes. She was involved in the Legion Auxiliary, she was the Treasurer of the Drop-In Centre and she canvassed for charities. She participated in the “Seniors are Cool” program and the Grandview Senior Choir.
Donna Jean was predeceased by her parents Allen and Jennie Winfield, her husband, Harvey Glennie, who passed away on October 14, 2010, her brother Bud Winfield on December 1, 2014 and her sister Merle Campbell on April 2, 2015.
Donna Jean is survived by her son; Dennis Glennie and Janine Meyer of Langenburg, SK, her four daughters; Lois (Dennis) Lukey of Grandview, Barb Glennie and Myles Meagher of Winnipeg, Karen Glennie and Dave Semenchuk of Winnipeg, and Susan Hermiston and Paul Wood of Winnipeg. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Robin (Anthony), Dani, Nathan, Jennifer, Kyle, Rory and Katie. She will lovingly be missed by her sister Ruth Clark and by many nieces, nephews, other extended family as well as a host of friends.
Donna Jean’s Graveside Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in Grandview Memorial Gardens with Reverend Karen Kuzek officiating. Donna Jean’s granddaughter, Robin Campese, delivered the Eulogy. The Grandview Senior Choir led the singing of the hymn, “Amazing Grace” and performed the song “Little Brown Jug”. Members of the Grandview Legion Auxiliary Branch #14 formed the Honour Guard. Donna Jean’s granddaughters, Robin Campese and Jennifer Lukey were the Urn Bearers and laid Donna Jean to rest beside her beloved husband, Harvey Glennie. Her grandchildren were the Honorary Bearers.
Following the Graveside Service, a gathering to celebrate her life was held at the Grandview Legion Hall, hosted by the Legion Auxiliary.
The family would like to thank the Legion Auxiliary Honour Guard and the Senior Choir for their participation and for Reverend Karen Kuzek and Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home for their support. Thanks to the Legion Ladies for serving lunch to family and friends. Our hearts are full of gratitude to the entire staff of the Grandview Hospital and the Grandview Personal Care Home for the care given to Donna Jean.
