David Negrych Obituary

NEGRYCH, DAVID JOSEPH, September 6, 1951 - July 22, 2018 was born on the family farm in the Fort Pelly District. Dave passed away on July 22nd, 2018, at the Dauphin Hospital in Dauphin, MB. He was 66 years old.

Dave’s parents were Emily Negrych (nee Grywacheski) and Joseph Negrych. He was raised in Norquay and received his primary education there. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Degree in Computer Science in the early 1970’s and was lucky enough to retire at the age of 55. Dave worked at the Co-operators, CDSL, and CGI during his professional career. Dave met Linda (Rudy) in Saskatoon while they were both in post-secondary school. They were married on July 20th, 1974 in Canora, SK. They raised two children – Laurel and Kelly – in Regina. In 2006, Dave and Linda retired, moving to the Roblin area – living at the bottom of the hill at Big Boggy Creek – where Dave enjoyed having time to follow his interests in a setting that he treasured. In 2009, Dave was delighted to become a Grandfather and, with great love and affection, has taken great pride in being a part of all three of his grandchildren’s lives. Nobody could come up with fun activities like canoeing to find beaver dams or reading a cool book as well as Grandpa Dave!

Dave loved a wide spectrum of the world – from Nature (gardening, astronomy, canoeing and camping) to Technology (radios, machining, and computers). During his professional life, he would spend his days managing data systems and then come home and unwind doing the “fun” computer things he wanted to do. He never ceased to be amazed at how far computer technology had come and wondered what it would look like throughout his grandchildren’s lives. While computers and technology had been a passion of his, in recent years, Dave became very involved with the amateur radio community and was excited to find ways to engage the younger generation in something he was very passionate about. Dave knew about animal tracks, trees, geology, weather, as well as many other things in the natural world and looked forward to teaching his grandkids all that he knew. His seemingly endless natural knowledge amazed his kids. Recently, Dave had returned to the Roman Catholic religion – attending services at the San Clara Roman Catholic Church – where he enjoyed the music, fellowship, and faith. Most importantly, Dave was the kind of person who was happy to help you learn about something if you expressed an interest in it. He found it easier to read a technical manual than a book “for entertainment” and his ability to learn new topics was only outpaced by his enthusiasm for them. Dave was the family’s “go-to” man for everything from getting a “Manager’s” perspective, to doing home repairs, to experimenting with the best way to make shortbread cookies. He was a quiet man who was a hard worker and an even-keeled, generous, loyal friend and relative.

He is survived by his wife Linda, his daughters Laurel and Kelly, his grandchildren Kai, Kaleb, and Mary, his sisters Ida, Angie, and Mary, and many extended family members. Dave is predeceased by his parents Emily and Joseph Negrych, sister Sylvia, and brother Joe.

Peace to his memory.
