NELSON, Brian Eric Born October 4, 1955 – December 1, 2023. Aged 68 years.
Brian Eric Nelson was born on October 4,1955 to Bernard and Vivian Nelson at Grandview, Manitoba. He was the second of four children. He attended the Duck Mountain School. In the fall of 1967, he started attending school in the town of Grandview. He started farming with his father and his brothers at a very young age on the family farm located in the Meharry area of the Duck Mountain district in the rural municipality of Grandview. The family raised horned Hereford cattle, grain, chickens, ducks, horses and some pigs for the freezer. The family was very involved in the local 4H beef club, showing calves every year and going to local fairs.
Brian and his brother Vern eventually took over the family farm and continued as a mixed farming operation. His parents retired to the town of Grandview in 1984. Brian and Vern continued to farm until 2021. Brian resided in the Duck Mountain area for most of his life, and then moved to the town of Grandview.
Family was always very important to Brian. He was the very capable chauffeur, tour guide and caregiver for his parents, His Auntie Anne Ericson and his Uncle Nels, his grandmother Annie Gabrielson and for his sister Barb. He was always very interested in the family’s Swedish heritage and liked attending several family reunions and meeting so many of his relatives. Brian always had time to talk and visit with everyone who came into his life. He especially enjoyed getting to know his Uncle Bill Nelson, who travelled from California to visit with his two brothers and his sister, whom he had not seen for many years. Brian spent a lot of time with the four siblings, listening to them tell stories of their younger lives and learning so many stories that he had not heard before.
Brian always loved his animals – the cattle, his many dogs and cats and his horses. His last dog Buddy was his faithful companion for over ten years until Buddy passed away earlier this year.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Vivian Nelson, his Auntie Anne Ericson (Holger), his uncles Nels Nelson and William Nelson (Berniece) of California, his aunt and uncle Lillian and Jim Greer, Grandma Annie Gabrielson, and cousin in law Sandy Banks.
He is survived by brothers Vern (Arlene), Herb, sister Barb (Darcy) Kozack of Rossburn, nephew Aaron, Great nephew Parker, Cousins Patti Banks, Debra (Ron) Hamilton, Janet (Dwaine) Balak, Bernice (Brian) Lehky and by Barb and Darcy’s fur baby Rosie.
Rest in peace, Brother Brian, you will be greatly missed.
