Beverly Jean Mickelson, age 73 years of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Roblin District Health Centre.
Bev was born July 27, 1940 in Yorkton, Saskatchewaan to parents Bill and Margaret (Benjamin) Cumming. She attended school in Stoney Coulee and Springside where she and brother Bob grew up.
She took her nurse’s training in Yorkton Hospital and had worked there a short time when she met Earl Mickelson.
Bev and Earl were married November, 1961. Bev continued her nursing career in Roblin until her retirement in 2003. Together, Earl and Bev built Shell River Herefords, well respected through Western Canada and cattle circles throughout the world. Earl and Bev loved to visit with fellow producers and look at their stock. Through the cattle business, they developed many rich, life-long friendships. Bev loved animals and was always surrounded by cats and dogs and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. She was very talented and generous with her beautiful knitting. Every Christmas she gave away delicious homemade chocolates and Christmas puddings.
She was predeceased by her husband, Earl and her parents, Bill and Margaret Cumming.
Bev is survived by: brother; Bob (Donna) Cumming of Springside, Saskatchewan, sisters–in-law; Gladys Shearer, Laura Mickelson, Ruby Alexander, all of Roblin, Lillian Campbell of Bremerton, Washington brother-in-law; Oliver (Loretta) Mickelson of Roblin, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Bev’s Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM from Knox United Church in Roblin with Reverend Mark Hammond officiating. Bob and Betty Dayson sang the duet “The River, Mother Nature and Me”, and also led the congregation in singing the hymns, “Because He Lives”, “Peace In The Valley” and “How Great Thou Art”. The Honour Guard was formed by retired Nurses that had worked with Bev at Roblin District Health Centre. Immediately following the Funeral Service a reception was held in the Church Hall and was hosted by the Tummel Ladies.
The Interment had taken place earlier in the day at 12:30 PM at Tummel Deer-Park Cemetery with Rev. Mark Hammond officiating. Warren Leflar, Jim Leflar, Wayne Buick, Tom Robin, Bill Biglieni and Hubert Carriere were the Casket Bearers.
