In Loving Memory of

Betty Gertrude McMannis

1931 - 2015

Betty McMannis, age 84 years of Grandview, Manitoba, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Grandview Hospital.

Betty was born in Grandview, Manitoba on January 3rd, 1931 to William Thomas and Mary Audrey (nee Peel) Evans.  She attended Duck Mountain School until the death of her younger brother Bert in 1946.  She worked on the family farm until she gained employment at Chaiken’s General Store.

On April 17th, 1953 she married William Ronald (Ron) McMannis, who had moved to Grandview from Holland, Manitoba.  Together they started to farm and raised three daughters; Gail, Audrey, and Debbie.

Betty was an active leader in the 4-H Sewing Club and a member of a United Church Ladies Group.  She enjoyed curling, bowling, horses and snowmobiling.

Her family was always her priority.  She participated in many family functions with her siblings, children, grand children, and great grandchildren.  Friends and neighbors also always knew they could count on her at ANY time for ANY thing. A picnic at the roadside park and a good old ball game was always a fun time for her.

In the early 1990’s, Ron and Betty moved to town to reside at 228 Rose Avenue and Ron continued to farm with Bernard Hyra.  Betty spent her free time knitting, doing craft projects and jigsaw puzzles.  She also enjoyed revitalizing an old piece of furniture into an amazing piece.

She was predeceased by her husband Ron, her parents Tom and Mary Evans, her brothers; Gerald and wife Laura, Ken and his wife Phyllis, Bill and his wife Ina, and Bert, her sister Reta and husband Ed Johnson, and a little sister who passed away at the age of two years from Scarlet Fever.  She is also predeceased by Ron’s parents, James Armour and Susan Charters McMannis and her brothers-in-law James and Murray McMannis and Harold LaRoque.

Betty is survived by her daughters; Gail (Brian) Cords, Audrey (Ed) Sul, and Debbie McCasin, her grandchildren; Tracy Krulicki, Trudy (Kevin) Layne, Ron Cords, Scott Cords, Nicole (Tony) Sul-Wiebe, Christopher Sul, Tim McCasin, Corey McCasin, and Kelly McCasin, and her great grandchildren; Garrett Krulicki, Morgan Krulicki, Makayla Johnston, Kristian, Kylee, and Kaelyn Layne.  She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law Eileen Laroque and Gerry McMannis, numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family, as well as a host of friends.

Betty’s Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Grandview United Church, officiated by Rev. Karen Kuzyk.  The organist Mrs. Deneen Fisher and the United Church Choir led the congregation in singing the hymns; “Come In, Come In and Sit Down”, “In the Garden” and “Abide with Me”.  The choir also performed the anthem “Amazing Grace”.  Betty’s Eulogy was read by Trudy Layne and Tracy Krulicki.

Following the Interment Service in Grandview Memorial Gardens, a memorial reception was held in the Grandview Kinsmen Community Centre, hosted by the Grandview United Church Women.

There are angels God puts on this earth

who care for us and guide us.

You can feel their love and gentleness

as they walk through life beside us.

They do great things for us every day.

They whisper in our ears,

they even hold us in their hearts

when we are filled with all our fears.

They are always there to give a hug

and try to make us smile.

They treat us with respect and love,

they treat us like their child.

God blessed me with an angel,

I'm proud to call my own.

She's been with me throughout my

life, been with me as I've grown.

She's guided me the best she can,

she's taught me like no other,

and I'm thankful I'm the lucky one

who gets to call her......

Mother.
