Spear, Benjamin Russell (Ben), August 27, 1944 - October 3, 2018, beloved husband of Margaret Spear of Roblin, passed away on October 3, 2018, at the age of 74.
After a long battle with cancer “Bennie” has left us. Born August 27, 1944 in Grandview, MB, Ben grew up in Bield, MB and spent his adult life living in Roblin. On December 2, 1967 he married Margaret Thompson and they had three children.
Ben had a few different careers throughout his life such as a fuel truck driver, a hospital orderly, and a lot of people will remember him as the Manco milk man! His passion though turned out to be meatcutting and being a butcher for the majority of his life; he retired in 2009 to spend more time doing his passion of fishing.
Ben was never one to pass up a conversation or leave without teasing you or telling you some wild story that you almost believed but knew better! He will be missed by all who knew him and never forgotten by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 51 years Margert Spear, his brother Rod Spear (Esther), sister Alta Sigurdson, sister-in-law Linda Dodd, brother-in-law Fred Thompson (Carol) and brother-in-law Jim Thompson (Debbie), his children: daughter Cathy Rose (Dave McGowan), son William Spear, and daughter Cindy Schmidt (Chad Schmidt). He also has 11 grandchildren and 7 ½ great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him very much.
He was predeceased by his mother Jean Jaassund, father Russell Spear, mother-in -law Elizabeth Thompson and father-in-law William Thompson, sister Ellen McComb, brothers-in-law Wilmont McComb, Gordon Sigurdson and Ted Dodd.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from the Chapel of NairnChyz-Wolkowski Funeral Home with Pastor Heath Butler officiating.
