ANGUS, Barry Kilkenny Born February 24, 1953 ~ September 19, 2024
Barry Kilkenny, born in Roblin, Manitoba, was the youngest of five children belonging to Bart and Mae Angus of Beild, Manitoba. Barry was raised in the hills in a small farmhouse and attended the one-room schoolhouse in Beild, Manitoba for his elementary years then moved on to complete high school in Roblin, Manitoba. In his younger years, Barry worked at the dairy farm belonging to his sister Donna and her late husband Ed. He later moved to BC to work in the oil industry for a few years and then found himself back home working in the forestry industry.
This eventually took him up north to Jan Lake where he met many dear friends as well as his wife Orla. They lived together in the north raising Barry's two children from his first marriage: Robert, and Catherine, as well as they welcomed their own two girls: Desarae and Ada, into their lives while living in Cranberry Portage, Manitoba.
Barry continued to build lasting friendships and work in the logging industry with his close friend and cousin David (Punky) until he moved his young family to Thompson, Manitoba to work for a logging company. This is where Barry continued to build his family with Orla adding two more children into their family: Elizabeth, and Alexander, and developed many lasting friendships over the years. Barry and Orla were married on November 6, 1993, and called Thompson home for the remainder of his years.
As the logging industry changed, he sought out a new career path driving a milk truck for Beatrice and was gifted the nickname Batman for his speedy deliveries and long work hours. He soon attained a career with the mining company INCO and made that his career for the rest of his working life until retiring at the age of 69 due to health issues. He enjoyed a few short years of retirement doing the things he loved with his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Barry farmed wild rice as a side hobby that he would enjoy with his friends and family by his side, he had countless jam sessions demonstrating his deep love of music and would move people from tears of joy to tears of laughter with his gift of music that he inherited from his mother Mae. Along with rice lakes and music, Barry enjoyed fishing, hunting and being out in the bush exploring the landscape everywhere he went.
Barry is predeceased by his Mother Mae, Father Bart, Brother Len, Granddaughter Shae-Lynn, Grandson Deaglyn, and Nephew Geoff. He is survived by his wife Orla, his six children: Robert, Catherine, Desarae, Ada, Elizabeth, and Alexander as well as 17 grandchildren, Brother Bill and sisters Betty and Donna. He has also left behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Barry often shared that he had a full and active life full of love and adventure. He left this world surrounded by his family and will be missed dearly.
