Arvid Bennett Crabb - March 12, 1932 – June 1, 2018
It is with deep sadness, the Crabb family announce the sudden passing of Arvid, who passed away peacefully at the Roblin District Hospital, at the age of 86 years.
Arvid was a proud armed forces cadet. He was employed at a young age by B&D Motors in Swan, R&B Electric in Roblin for a short term and soon became employed by Crosstown Motors for 47 years from 1950 to 1997. After retirement from Crosstown, he worked for the Roblin Planning District, as a Building Inspector. He was a long-time volunteer firefighter who respected and honored the brotherhood. As a community minded individual, he was a member of the Elks, the Roblin Curling Club and the Roblin Flying Club. Arvid enjoyed the great outdoors and loved hunting, fishing and camping. He also obtained his full pilots licence and loved flying the Roblin Flying Club Cessna and viewing the scenery and wildlife in the parkland area from the sky. He was also fond of curling, music, hockey and watching football. He had numerous hobbies and interests in carpentry, wood and metal lathe works. He frequently worked alongside his sons while they were restoring collector vehicles. He loved to save all sorts of things, from antique railway items to 2-dollar bills and pennies. He was very fond and intrigued by trains, as his Grand Father and Father worked for the CNR.
Arvid was a mechanical genius, scientifically minded, resourceful and fixed everything from lawn mowers to watches, to the wiring of the Roblin Fire & Rescue ambulance and countless other motorized items. Arvid had a great sense of humor and played many pranks on his coworkers and friends. He stood out as the little guy with a big heart that always tried to help people out with mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical. He invented and installed a left foot lever and hand controls for a few disabled Roblin drivers, he could make or fix anything …a jack of all trades.
Arvid is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Pauline, children; Aaron, Bill (Vida), Kathy (Michael) and Tim (Margaret). As well as his sister Margaret Dennis (Don) of Swan River, Aunt Lee Kaizer of Yorkton, Uncle George Fenuik of Burnaby, B.C., numerous cousins of the Crabb clan and he was blessed with 7 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren whom he cherished.
Arvid was predeceased by his Mother Kathleen Lawson, Father Gifford Crabb, brother Morley Crabb Step Father Harry Lawson, infant Grand Daughter, Shaylyn Crabb, grandparents William and Maude Crabb, Mike and Sarah Fenuik as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements were made for a private family viewing on Friday the 8th of June 2018 from the Chapel of NairnChyz-Wolkowski Funeral Home, Roblin. Arvid was laid to rest with an honor guard offered and conducted by the Roblin Fire and Rescue on June 9, 2018 at the Roblin Cemetery. The eulogy was delivered by Grandson, Josh Crabb.
